As we prepare for the beginning of a new school year, we are one step closer to the completion of the SAMU building that is built by students, for students. This addition to the MacEwan campus will provide students with more study space, new food options and a beautiful event centre.
Although disappointed that the original completion date of late July cannot be met, we remain excited to welcome the MacEwan community before the end of the fall term. A number of factors have led to a later opening than anticipated. The weather, cost reduction exercises that required new drawings, delay in receiving fabricated steel and higher than expected contract and material costs meant looking at alternatives to save money. Unfortunately, many of these factors are outside of the contractors’ and SAMU’s control.
SAMU is committed to keeping students informed through regular building updates. The best way to access updates is by visiting www.samubuilding.ca or follow us on social media.
