Building Update

So, you may have heard us talking about this little project of ours called the SAMU Building. It’s going to be this state- of-the art student space between Building 8 and 9 (kind of like Building 9 ¾) opening in 2019 and we’re pretty excited about it! But what exactly does this mean for you? Here are some of the highlights that you can look forward to:

More Space for the Programs & Services You Love

As MacEwan grows, so does SAMU. We’re quickly outgrowing the space we have, and the new building offers us much needed space to expand. We’ve got rooms dedicated to the Student Food Bank, Breakfast Club, Peer Support and a new event space, so you can expect to see all of your favourite programs and services.

More Student Space

The main purpose of the new SAMU building is to offer students more places on campus to hang out and study. With student space on each floor SAMU is proud to be bringing you guys:

  • 8 Meeting Rooms for clubs and students, complete with TV screens and embedded tech.
  • 5 Banquette styled booths for breakout chats and general seating.
  • 2 designated quiet study spaces so you can focus and get work done.
  • More seating and outlets throughout the building so you can recharge both figuratively and literally.

More Food Options

More. Food. Options. Does anything else really need to be said? We’re extremely excited that we’ll be bringing in 4 different retailers to offer you a wider selection of tasty food to fuel your study sessions. And for the prepared students who come to campus with a packed lunch – may we present more microwaves! Which might actually be the most exciting bit about this whole building thing.

So there you have it! We hope this little sneak peek has you guys getting a little excited for the new building – stay tuned for further updates!
